Wind speed and energy new research

A new research  suggests that global wind speeds have increased substantially since 2010 after decades of decline.Due to which wind energy increase 37%

Scientists believe that  due to the changes in the patterns of ocean and atmospheric circulation the wind speed increased .

The researchers say that it is a very good news for the wind energy industry.

They believe  due to the increase in speed of wind the increase production is also increase about 37 %

From the 1980s, scientists noticed a marked decrease in the speed of winds around the world.

The termed “terrestrial stilling”, the decline which is too much large that had it continued until the end of this century, global wind speed would have declined by 21%.

The researcher  say this would have halved the amount of power available from the wind industry.

Scientists were uncertain as to what was causing the decline. One theory of declining  the speed of wind is the greening of the Earth or more urbanization was increasing surface roughness and curbing wind speeds.

But this new study suggests that by itself, the roughness idea is not enough to explain the changes.

Studying the data of 9,000 ground weather stations which is  combined with statistical models, the scientist show that over the years since 2010, winds speed increased  “significantly” around the globe.

The rate of increasing speed is in fact three times greater than the rate at which the winds speed were declining before 2010.

The researcher  believe that the reason for the increase in speed of wind  is more to do with changes in the ocean and atmospheric circulation patterns and not down to surface roughness alone.

If this  trends remain constant  for the next decade then the wind power from a single turbine would rise to 3.3 million kilowatt hours in 2024 and  overall increase of 37%.

The researchers  believe the increase in wind speeds will decline again in future but it will persist for at least the next 10 years.
